After Prom

Evan was not thrilled with the idea of going to another prom. He wanted to work and make big money at a local tournament. He didn’t want to wear a tux (and I wasn’t thrilled about spending $300 for a tux that he would wear for three hours). So the kids didn’t go. Instead, they met some friends for late night takeout and a dip in the pool. At midnight they made their way to After Prom at the high school where they ate, played, and ate some more.

Evan surprised himself when he did a couple of flips on the bungee trampoline.

At the raffle, Evan won a Yeti cooler. He put all of his raffle tickets in on this prize to increase his chances of winning. It worked. He says he plans to use it on fishing trips to store the fish he catches.

At 3:30 in the morning we took one last picture from “The Last Tour.” Then we headed home and to bed.

District Championship in Pictures

District Tournament

I was a nervous wreck before tonight’s district championship game. Northeast was quick to score three goals, but our boys never gave up. Evan rallied the boys and was a tremendous encourager.

We didn’t get the result we hoped for, but it was a hard fought game. Evan played with such intensity and heart. It may just be one of his best games.

Keagan scored two PKs and then left the game early after suffering a knee injury - again. He’s on crutches and back to ice, ibuprofen, and bed rest. Madilyn made him a sign and had every reason to raise it.

We lost 3-4 but we had so many opportunities to score. We just couldn’t get the ball to fall into the net.

Both boys made the 2021 13-AAA All District Team. This is such a great honor because there are great players in our district!

We play in Regionals on Monday night against Arlington. Keagan won’t be playing, but I fully expect Evan to have another great game! It will be a long three hour drive anticipating the game, but it will be pure elation driving three hours back home after the win.

Another Day in Review

Evan received his first graduation gift last week and wrote his thank you card tonight after practice. He’s done this before, but the thank you cards usually get placed in a larger envelope with pictures that I then address. He did fine with the card, but he didn’t know how to address the envelope. We had a mini-lesson on how to write snail mail addresses.

At OT I had a benchmark today on the rowing machine. And I crushed it! My goal going into class was to beat my time by 30 seconds. I beat it by 79 seconds! Progress!

Keagan completed OSHA certification for level 1 of his health science program. I asked what this meant, and he said he doesn’t know. He was too caught up in FIFA to have a conversation. (I love how he spends his free time in his Hefner robe.)

This Day in Review

The news of a possibility of a shortage in gas just reached my family today. I texted the boys to tell them to fill up since gas prices are rising. I paid almost $3 a gallon this morning. Evan texted me back. “If gas goes up to $6 a gallon, then we better buy some damn bikes.” He then proceeded to text the soccer team group chat and advised all the boys to fill up since “Sleepy Joe let this one get past him.”

Speaking of soccer. We played Northwest in the district tournament’s semi-final game tonight and won 6-0. Keagan had two assists with two beautiful free kicks perfectly placed in the box. We play in the district championship against Northeast Thursday night.

Evan took his AP Spanish exam today. He texted me at lunch to say, “I definitely failed. I was totally lost.” (This happens when only three of the six units are covered.) He’s now taken two of his three AP tests. Friday will be the last test.

Tonight was senior awards night. Evan did not want to attend, but I told him we were going anyway. The game caused us to arrive to the ceremony as everyone else was leaving. Evan literally arrived in uniform while the other students were dressed in Sunday clothes. He was awarded the Volunteer Service Pin for completing more than 80 hours of volunteer work during his high school career.

He’s thrilled. Can’t you tell?

Season Closer

The regular school soccer season closed with tonight’s game and our 2-1 win. After Tuesday night’s loss to the number six team in the state, the win was a great boost to our confidence and proved we can play offense and defense in the same game at the same time. 🤣 We played against some of our old TUSC friends tonight, and it was a pure joy to catch up with everyone again.

We also got to see friends that we currently play with for travel ball.

Next week we play in the district tournament. Because of our first place seed, we earned a bye for Monday’s quarter final games. We are looking to win the semi-final game on Tuesday night. Go Hawks!

Joy with Boys

We have hit a new low in our house tonight. I usually find guitar picks or coins. A couple of times I have found gum still in the wrapper. I have even found a yellow ref card. But tonight’s find takes the cake! While doing the laundry tonight, I found a shrimp tail in the middle of Keagan’s wadded up practice jersey! We had shrimp Thursday night, and beyond that, I have no idea how a shrimp tail gets wrapped up in a shirt and put in the laundry.

I remind myself it’s all apart of the joy in having boys. One day I’ll miss this. Right now, not so much.
