Sledding Until Night Fall

The boys got one more day of sledding in before the ice and snow began to melt.

I made a killer pot of jambalaya. I cleaned toilets. And I did this. If my freezers filled with prepared meals don't indicate exactly how much free time I have had, then certainly this picture does.

I had to work hard to get it, too. He kept flying away as soon as I opened the back door.

We are ready to return to a routine, but we will welcome another winter storm in about three weeks. After all, we have a few more snow days to use before spring arrives.

Cabin Fever

Zero is this morning's temperature with wind chills closer to negative fifteen. The roads are blocks of ice and more snow is expected tomorrow. We've been given the rest of the week off, and I have no idea how we will spend two more days in the house. I coerced Wes to take me into town yesterday, so I could buy staples to make gumbo. I have the freezer stocked with casseroles. I've researched ways to clean soap scum off glass shower walls. I've cleaned the house top to bottom. The laundry is done. I've read two books. I've memorized the path of the upcoming polar air mass. I've watched the European League soccer finals. I've seen every episode of Fixer Upper. I've played with the cat and found myself talking to her about cold weather and polar air masses. I've researched summer football camps. I've decided to clean my baseboards. I've shredded old hamburger buns and fed the birds. I've spent hours looking out my window trying to identify said birds.

Does this mean I have a case of cabin fever? Yes, without a doubt. But the boys think they are in heaven.

Snow Day

We were hoping all weekend we would get just enough ice that schools would be closed. I think we must have wished a little too hard. We got two inches of ice pellets and sleet and then two inches of snow on top of that. This morning we hunted high and low for snow gear so the boys could go sledding. After half an hour of coaxing, Evan ended up wearing my ski pants and snow boots.  He wasn't too thrilled with wearing "Lady Boots."

They finally made it outside and in the snow, and within five minutes, Evan lost his sled on the pond. Wes created a contraption that would allow him to retrieve it without walking on the ice and the boys were back in business.

But the fun was short lived. The cold was too much for my Southern boys. They later attempted a Nerf War and decided the ice made running from the enemy too difficult.

We have another snow day tomorrow. With my "Lady Boots" spoken for, I'll be spending my day indoors. I've got a bet or two going on a game of pool. Someone else is going to be cleaning toilets tomorrow afternoon.

Snow Day

We left school on Friday and no one was predicting anything like the snow fall we received last night. When the Friday night forecasts called for ten inches of snow on Sunday, we all laughed. But the laugh was on us because this morning the boys and I awoke to 7.5 inches of snow (measured on our deck) and it is still snowing. I fed the boys and decided to curl up in bed with a book. Ten minutes later I was back asleep only to be awakened a short time later with, "Mom, where are the snow suits?" After we geared up in snow suits, boots, and gloves, we grabbed the sled and headed for the hills. Evan will not even consider sledding the slope in the front yard; he has moved on to bigger and better hills. Today we hit the golf course slope in the backyard. Now that is fun! Back inside we warmed up with cups of hot chocolate and bowls of soup. All of this and it is only 10:30!
