3rd ⚽️ffer

Today Keagan received a text message with a third offer from a school in North Carolina. It’s a new program at a school we’re not familiar, but it is  exciting just the same. The coach found our contact info on a recruiting website that included Keagan’s  video and player profile. It was nice to be able to say, “Thank you, but I’ve committed to play elsewhere.”

Last First High School Game

Tonight was the last first high school game. Every year I dread the high school season. The level of play is always an adjustment after travel ball. After the first game, you just agree to watch bad soccer and hope you aren’t as bad as the others.

Keagan is playing center back; he says it’s boring and wants to be in the midfield or playing as an outside back where there’s more action. But tonight’s pre-season score was 3-0; he’s on his way to a clean sheet. I hope I can persuade him to save his knees, play in the back, and work for a zero in the “goals scored against” column.

Admitted

The next step in the college application process has been accomplished!

The only step remaining in this arduous process is to pass a physical.

Happiest of Birthdays to Me

I was up at o’dark thirty to make my way to the gym for a birthday burn. Nothing says ‘love yourself ‘ and ‘here’s to another year’ like a good work out!

The fam and I had brunch today in Germantown to celebrate! We watched the Vols lose on the big screens, played the game “is she a local or a visitor”, and had great pancakes.

I had a BAM that had me feeling so good I forgot about the pinched nerve in the back of my skull but kinda made it hard making it out of the beer garden tables.

These two joined us before making their way to a Mardi Gras themed party.

Tomorrow the celebration continues with another brunch with Evan and Anna in Knox.

I’m one year away from 50, an age I once thought officially made a person old. I’m rethinking that now; I’ve decided 100 is old. This still gives me another life to live.

Hawks Soar

Keagan made the high school soccer team!

It’s not a big surprise, but it is momentous. After ten years of football, basketball, and soccer seasons, this is our last sports season cheering for the Hawks.

Let’s go Hawks!

Officially a College Athlete

He did it! Today Keagan signed his letter of intent to play soccer in college. He’s chasing a dream he’s had as long as I can remember. This is so surreal because we have prayed, and hoped, and dreamed this for so many years. And now it is no longer a dream but a reality.

The outpouring of support and congratulations from friends, family, and co-workers is overwhelming. We appreciate so many people sending their congrats! I only wish we could have each of his coaches - even the male coach he had when he was 3 that wore make-up - in a room together to publically thank.

The best part of the deal - well, one of the best parts of the deal? He will be close to home, and I will get to watch all of the home games! I can’t wait to wear purple and cheer for the Trojans next fall!

Birthday Bash

Today my sweet grandmother is 97 years old. 97! She’s experienced so much in her life time that it often boggles my mind; she could teach a class on American history in the 20th century.

She may be a bit slow to move, but she’s still a pistol - quick witted and full of stories. She loves her family and she’s so proud of these four great grands.

We celebrated Wes’s birthday today listening to live music at a venue in Nashville.

I don’t have any people pictures, but make note that the almost fifty crowd celebrates milestones at the brunch hours instead of the evening hours.

Next weekend we are celebrating my birthday; two weekends in a row we will be in the city celebrating. The almost fifty crowd is living on the wild side all month long. You better believe we will hit the town, once again, during brunch hours.

⚽️ffer #2

Just a few months ago, at a time when most would have shaken their heads and said it was too late, I encouraged Keagan to take a look at a more local university. He did and found the school offered all of the academic programs he’s expressed interest in possibly exploring, to include entrepreneurship. The coach offered to train one of our travel ball sessions in December, and then in January Keagan attended a two day ID camp on campus. Tonight the coach called to offer him a spot on the team - to include an athletic scholarship!

Our sermon series in January was about unanswered prayer. Keagan told me a few weeks ago, he thought the series was directed at him because he had thought or experienced everything our pastor mentioned. He admitted he felt abandoned by God because his prayer to play soccer in college had gone unanswered, so he prayed the prayer he’s been praying for years one more time. The next day he received his first offer.

Prayers get answered. Dreams come true. I have one happy boy.

This weekend we are headed to Knoxville to give one more school a try.
