Quarantine Day # Too Many

Today would be our day to climb Macchu Picchu. I’m still not over missing it. Instead of hiking in seventy degree weather, we are hunkered down at home preparing for another round of tornadoes.

The struggle to shop and find necessary ingredients is real. We are still eating and eating well but sometimes we have to get creative. Yesterday I made pork chops in cream sauce, and we were missing heavy cream. Wes and Keagan went on a hunt for cream and came back with this.

We’ve established a daily routine. The boys sleep until noon. I fix a big lunch/dinner at 2:00. The boys play basketball. I read a book. Wes works from home. The cat snoozes. The dog chases birds.

Then we repeat it again the next day.

Keagan’s play in a late-night FIFA tournament on the PS-4 resulted in game one ending in a win. I was cheering like it was a real game, and Evan was dishing out advice like he was the coach. Those 15 minutes were intense!

Today is Keagan’s big tournament. Evan got an invite to play in a Madden tournament on Wednesday. So even if we can’t play team sports in person with real people, my boys have found a way to still participate.

Spring Break

It’s spring break, so I should be packing. I should be going to the airport tomorrow for my long-awaited dream trip to Peru. Instead I have pulling weeds and doing taxes on my to-do list.

The Corona virus is causing major changes to our day-to-day lives. Namely, we have no life. The gym closed Tuesday. Restaurants began closing Thursday. Church is closed for a month. No sports or practices allowed. Schools are closed for the next two months. Now that I am done with remote teaching, I have no idea how I will fill my days.

With a full week of nothing, Keagan has had his fill of video games. Tonight he told me he had great news! Out of more than eight million people who play division 1 soccer in FIFA, he’s ranked in the top 200. I’m not really sure how to react to such an accomplishment. So my kids were doing something more than just sitting on the couch for the last seven days! He said, “No one can claim my soccer expertise.” 😂 There you go. So we aren’t going to Peru, but Keagan is a master of EA sports.

Quarantine

This is day six of the boys’ quarantine but I use that word loosely. Saturday the boys were with their girlfriends, and on Sunday they were with their best friends. By Tuesday Evan was so bored he offered to go with me to Hobby Lobby to pick up craft supplies. On Wednesday Keagan asked me five times if I planned to go grocery shopping; he was in need of Little Bites and all things full of additional carbs.

I’m on day one of the quarantine as the government was late to join the stay-at-home game. I scrapbooked the last year of the boys’ lives in my new craft room. Three more days, though, and my to-do list will be completed. However will I fill my time if this lasts for weeks? I’ve dreamed of free time for months, and my introverted self  loves being home, but I never imagined this. I can only hope the rain stops so we can get outside!

Craft Space

It’s only three weeks overdue, but my craft room is done! It is exactly what I sketched on my graph paper back in January.

I’m sure you see the resemblance.

When Wes saw my well sketched designed, my meticulous measurements, and my pencil outlines on the wall of the craft room, he laughed. I told him I was confused. Doesn’t everyone draw, measure, and plan before a big job? Because he wasn’t able to “see” my vision, I had the carpenter draw it up for me.

They look exactly alike, but he some how thought this pic made it all much clearer. 😂

I’m so thankful I had a carpenter who could follow my rough sketches and the lines drawn on the wall to give me this!

Although I was hoping for a few snow days to keep me home, an anticipated quarantine in the next week will also do the trick. If you need me, I will be in here just scrapbooking away.

Next job? The screened in porch! I can’t wait to sit outside bug and dog free!

It Can’t Be!

It’s game time, People! We had our first official high school soccer game of the season and I had to blink twice at introductions. Is that...? Number 27? Number 36, of course. I fully expected Evan in the starting line up. But 27? What number is Keagan wearing tonight? It can’t be, but it is! That’s both of my boys in the starting line up!

Some coaches get it. Freshmen can play varsity and play a full game and be one of the best on the field!

We lost 0-2, both goals were set pieces, and neither could be attributed to my players. I Can Not Wait to See This!

My Favorite Season

My favorite season is finally here! The season of soccer is now playing. It doesn’t matter that the temp was 38 and the real feel was 28 at our first game. It doesn’t matter that I lost feeling in my toes for a good twelve hours. Soccer is here!

Keagan played JV Thursday night and had an assist while playing left back. We won 3-1. Evan played varsity and also had an assist while playing center back. We won 4-1. We have two starters out for Tuesday’s game due to injuries. The struggle to remain healthy has begun, but it luckily doesn’t involve my kids. I can’t wait to see how this season unfolds.
