Mother’s Day Love

This is true love.

My ultra-conservative, Trump lovin’, Obama bashin’ 16 year old suggested he and Keagan get me Michelle Obama’s book “Becoming” for Mother’s Day. My non-confrontational, apolitical, easy-going son agreed,  and then asked, “Mom likes the Obamas?”

When I asked for a picture, Keagan acquiesced with no questions. Evan agreed to it as long as he didn’t have to touch the book.

When my sister texted later in the day to ask what the boys got me, I told her I got Michelle Obama’s book, and she texted, “And you liked it?”

Magical Season

Just when I thought the boys had outgrown our tradition of placing a boot by the door and awaiting St. Nicholas's arrival, Evan reminded me this week that December 6 was almost upon us. As we hunted for the combat boots last night, Keagan admitted he believed in the Christmas magic of Santa and St. Nick, and I said a silent prayer thanking Him for one more year of believing.

St Nicholas did visit our house last night and he brought the boys soccer jerseys from their favorite players. I think it was a big hit because the boys stripped down in the front hallway and put them on almost immediately. And then they posed for me.

Aren't they sweet? And cute?

Evan tore into his Hershey's Peppermint bar and said, "Mom, this is soooo good that I will call it Jesus food."

I let them eat all the candy from the boots they wanted and then ushered them outdoors for a game of football on our first snow day of the year!

A snow day without snow. Who says the Christmas season is not magical?

With Love, Evan and Keagan

You might recall that last year Evan purchased a flashing lights ring for me for Christmas from the school’s Holiday Gift Shop. It was the most precious gift! This year I fully expected something similar, and if not another ring, I assumed it would be the lipstick case proudly displayed at the entrance of the holiday shop.

Imagine my surprise when I opened this....

A test tube of gel with a furry spider included!

When I asked Evan what I was supposed to do with it, he replied, "Play tricks on people with it, Mom!" I started laughing so hard that he then said, "See, Mom? You already like it. You are going to have lots of fun with it!"

And Keagan? He was allowed to attend the Holiday Gift Shop this year and he bought gifts with his allowance as well. In addition to purchasing a gift for himself (the monster truck was calling his name!), he purchased a robotic reading lamp for me.

He was so proud of the gift because he knows that I read almost every night. He told me he bought it so that I could "read stories in bed." So very thoughtful!
