I Never Thought I’d See the Day

I never thought I’d see this day. But here we are with both boys at team camp for the highschool basketball team. It may be a fuzzy picture, but it makes my heart smile to see them together.

While I want to celebrate the perseverance and gumption of Evan for overcoming injuries, putting aside his pride, and waking into the unknown with confidence so he could play basketball again, my heart breaks to see Keagan on the bench in an immobilizer. This is not how it was supposed to be. I just pray the injury is short-lived and nothing too serious.

Day two of team camp coming up! I pray Evan can stay healthy.

Court Time

The State Cup is rained out today - even though the sun is shining and the weather is perfect! No one is upset about this decision, especially not us. Not at all. It's only half of our team that can't play next weekend, and the state has chosen next Saturday as our make-up game day. Nope, not upset at all. Especially not my dad who drove nine hours to watch some soccer!

With no soccer games to play, we spent our day on the courts. Keagan played in his last tournament of the season and played lights out with a steal, a lay up, a three pointer, a free throw, an assist, and a rebound (and maybe several of each).

We would have won the last game, except with 23 seconds left, a player came up behind Keagan, pushed him to the ground, and literally took him, along with our win, out. Thankfully, he is concussion free.

After lunch, we drove north into Kentucky to watch Evan's basketball team play. They played three games and won another championship. Evan had a great defensive game in the semi-final rebounding several times and keeping the shooters down low from getting many shots off.

What do people do in the summer when they don't play sports? This question eludes me.

Spring Break Fun

It's Spring Break for the boys, and once again I am at work. My spring break is not for another three weeks.

Vikki and her family are here with us for the week. Yesterday's fun included Air Soft.

Today's adventure includes a trip to the SEC basketball tournament.

Guess who they plan to support?

Go, Aggies!

Our Life Just Got a Little More Complicated

Meet our AAU travel basketball players. Yep, both boys will be playing travel ball this spring and summer.

Someone told me last week that I was crazy agreeing to let the boys play both travel soccer and travel basketball. Come to think of it, Wes might have been on to something, but if our lives weren't crazy, it just wouldn't feel right.

Bring the crazy! We are ready....I think.

Winning Seasons

We celebrated the end of a wonderful basketball season with dinner and a magic show. First up - the only team that lost the first two games of the season and then won every game after that by double digits.

Next, the boys whose mothers hail from the same hometown in the great state of Texas.

The Rocky Toppers celebrated a perfect season.

And to think four short years ago I tried to dissuade Evan from playing basketball. Three years ago we finally purchased a basketball goal thinking it might be used for one season. Today we have indoor and outdoor goals, and we have gone through dozens of basketballs - literally. I have even learned to tolerate the repetitive and annoying sound of a bouncing basketball. My boys can not possibly take up any more sports; all of the seasons are taken!

He Went Bogus on Me

Today was the last game of the basketball season, and Keagan woke up and told me, "Mama, I'm going bogus at today's game." Keagan's team won 16 to 6 and he scored 10 points. I think bogus has been redefined.

He told me last night he had one wish in life. "Mama, I just want to see Kevin Durant play. I mean, watch him play live." I guess that college game I took him to see last night just didn't have the WOW factor he is looking for. Now I am on a mission to make sure my younger son's one dream in life comes true.

Evan, on the other hand, ate his fill of pigs-in-a-blanket this morning and walked onto the court without a word of the upcoming game. His team won 25 to 13 and he scored 13 points. After the game, he mentioned, "Mom, if you could find a travel basketball team, I think I might like to play."

Just when I thought things were going to slow down for a bit, but who am I to say no?

We celebrate the undefeated season next week.

Winter Basketball

The boys' first basketball games were today. This is Keagan's favorite sport. He has asked me several times if I will find a travel basketball team for him, and after today's performance, I think I just might honor that request. It was a sad, sad day for the Predators. The only saving grace is he was placed on a team that includes a couple of boys that are on his travel soccer team. My poor boy is out dribbling between his legs while some of his teammates are shooting on the wrong goal and clapping when the other team scores. It is frustrating beyond belief - for him and me.

The look on his face says it all.

Evan's team, on the other hand, has three fairly strong players and won their first game rather easily. He just so happens to be on a team that also includes a couple of boys from his soccer team. He was the tallest boy on the court and rebounded effortlessly today. I'm not really sure what happened to him this week, but Tuesday night he went to bed at 7:30. Wednesday night he ate three bar-b-que sandwiches for dinner, and Thursday morning, he put on a pair of jeans, that fit last week, and are now 1/4 an inch too short. I am completely amazed at how much this kid continues to grow and amazed at how much money I've had to spend on clothing in the last six months.

We're back at it next weekend. I'm praying God switches allegiance to the Predators and Evan stops growing long enough to wear the winter clothes I bought last month.

Boys, Football, and Dallas

Shhh! This is a complete surprise for the boys, but on Sunday we have tickets to see the Cowboys play in the new Cowboy Stadium. For a non-Texan, this might not sound very exciting, but most Dallasites will tell you that seeing a Cowboy game from some place other than your living room couch is like a rite of passage for young boys. A rite of passage that my 35 year old husband is hell bent on experiencing in this late stage of his life. So hell bent that when I reminded him that we could take a Greek Cruise for about the same amount of money, he gave me the look, and I knew I could close the browser window entitled "Summer in Winter in Greece" without further discussion.

Allow me to mention that our seats are so high up that you must watch the Jumbotron to see the details of any play. The irony is we could probably see more if we were at home watching the game from our living room couch. And I know we could definitely eat cheaper while sitting on the couch at home. I already forsee next summer's vacation spent in the hot dog line.

But we are hoping it will be worth the money and extreme hassle of renting a car, getting a hotel room, and driving to Savannah to pick up our tickets when we see our two little boys' faces light up when we arrive at the stadium.

Just maybe we will be lucky enough to witness the third win of the season! If so, there will be two more people all smiles.
