Keagan Always Makes Me Laugh

To celebrate my birthday, my co-workers brought a cake and gifts to work on Thursday. Another group of friends took me to dinner and showered me with cheesecake and gifts after school. I came home that night with bags of treats and gifts, and Keagan said, "These are some really good friends, Mom. Don't let them go."

Saturday night all four of us went to the local theatre to see the play, "Diary of Ann Frank." At intermission, Keagan was looking through the program trying to find the actor that would play the role of Hitler. I told him Hitler wasn't in the play, and he remarked, "Well then we can just go home. I wanted to see Hitler bang the door down and find them in the attic."

We are coming home champions after the last indoor tournament of the season.

We kick off outdoor season on Tuesday.

Ready or Not

This happened today. I can't even believe this is my reality. Evan toured the highschool; I attended an orientation session for parents of freshmen. FRESHMEN! I'm without words.

The elective tract has been chosen, the degree plan outlined, and the foreign language selected. He is ready to enroll on Thursday. ☹️

Day of Love

Valentines Day in our house this year includes the traditional chocolate candy and the non-traditional shoes. I set a limit on how much I would spend on a new pair of kicks; each boy had to pay the difference. After we placed the order on-line, Evan owed me $4 and Keagan had to empty his wallet. Keagan says they were worth every dollar. He opened the box and smelled it! Then exclaimed, "Aahhh, the smell of Footlocker."

The boys sent this bouquet to me at work.

When I got home this afternoon, Keagan met me at the door. Clearly he was awaiting my arrival and my strawberries. He then said, "Oh, Mom! I think you need some help with that, and I'm just the person to do that."

Evan had a dinner date with his girl. Their schedules often conflict; they rarely see each other during the week or even the weekend. However, this was our conversation on our way out the door.
Evan: I've got $15 for tonight's dinner.
Me: Baby, that's not enough for you and Olivia's dinner.
Evan: What?!! Why do have to pay for her meal? I already got her a gift.
Me: It's Valentines Day and she's your girlfriend. That's why.

He went back for money. I suspect Evan ordered a Coke and skipped ordering a meal. Afterall, why pay for dinner when Mom is making dinner for free?

All Tournament Team

We lost the district championship by a bucket. Twenty-four hours later and I still can't talk about it. We led the entire second half, and they went up by two points with eight seconds left in the game. Heartbreaking! Totally heartbreaking!

But there is a silver lining. Evan made the AAA Area 1 All Tournament Team.

A second place finish in area/district advances us to Regionals. I still can't believe this is even our boy scoring in double digits and leading his team to victory. Six years ago I told Evan "we don't play basketball." Whatever that means! Boy, was I wrong!

Congratulations, Hawks! You have had an excellent season. Can't wait to see you play again tomorrow at Regionals!

Area playoffs

I can't believe it! We won the first round of the district playoffs against Dixon. Evan had 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 blocks.

Edit: I am without words. I. Can't. Even. We won round 2 of the playoffs against the number one team in our district. Evan had 24 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists.

We are headed to the championship game! Evan's post summarizes our season in one tweet: "You said we wouldn't make it, but look who did."

Headed to the Playoffs

Keagan's sixth grade basketball team ended their regular season games today. The team is comprised of only sixth graders, but they play in a middle school division that includes eighth graders. We had a rough start and I was hoping to maybe win one game, two if we were lucky, but the boys surprised me and turned things around in December. After today's win, we qualified for the playoffs.

Round one of the playoffs is next weekend. Best of luck, Hawks!
