36 Hours in Rental House

This weekend I flew to Tampa to see Morgan Wallen with one of my very best friends. Our flights were delayed and canceled, and I arrived to our Air B&B at 0145 in the early morning hours. The neighborhood was so sketch I asked my Uber driver to walk with me to the front door of the house. I was actually a little scared to fall asleep. I got about five hours of sleep before Jenny arrived early the next morning. First thing I did was look out the windows. Here was our view.

Nothing says home like a school bus parked in the back yard.

We had brunch at a Greek restaurant and headed back to the house to avoid a big thunderstorm.

Two hours before the show start, we got an email that the show was canceled. Canceled! After paying for flights, paying exorbitant Uber surcharges for after hours rides, risking our lives in a sketch neighborhood, we didn’t even get to see our guy! We were so upset and we had to have something to drown our sorrows. We headed to the sketch corner store for wine. I was doubtful we would find anything, but we shouldn’t have doubted the Sunoco.

Quality Sutter wine right here. Los muchachos next door we’re getting high. Don't think for a second it didn’t cross my mind to join them.

We will see you, Tampa, again in October! Our guy better be well and be prepared for a terrific show!

Quiet Fourth

No girlfriends. No family. Just the four of us with the pool, great food, and fireworks.

The 22 days following the fourth will go by in 2.2 days. It will be the fastest three weeks of my life. Summer has been so good for me; I don’t want it to end.

Pink Skies and Hot Temps

While the boys were at the NSC game, Wes and I were in Nash to watch Zach Bryan.

The heat index was sitting at 100 degrees. That’s a shame because for the first time in 34 days I blow dried and styled my hair. As soon as I entered that stadium, though, it was up in a claw clip. It was so hot! In fact the show was stopped a couple of times because fans on the floor were passing out.

The best surprise was seeing Kacey take the stage with him.

He is a great performer! But did I mention it was hot? I think I’m going to burn the dress I wore last night. There’s no way that dress won’t ever smell but anything like sweat, vape, and concert smoke.

Families that Laugh Together Stay Together

We were so excited to see Theo Vonn schedule a pop up show for this week! Even more exiting (for me anyway) is it's a week night, and I don’t have to worry about a 4:15 alarm!

I laughed so hard I cried and it had nothing to do with the large Pinot Grigio I had to drink. He is just that funny!

We don’t have a sister date planned for July. So here’s to hoping another pop up show gets announced soon.

Family Photo

The family made a short pop-in visit this weekend after attending a funeral in Kentucky.

And look! Daddy is smiling! It’s the only picture I have of the four of us where he looks happy to be with us.

And I snapped a pic of the twins.

Birthday Celebration

Tonight we celebrated my sister’s birthday - one day early because nobody had to work today. Vikki’s favorite comedian, Brian Regan, was at The Ryman for a show. We last saw him in Dallas twenty-five years ago.

We were surprised when another favorite comedian, Nate Bargatze, took the stage as an opening act.

Next week we are back at The Mother Church for another comedy show.

Yoho National Park

We woke up to no snow, so we took the car west to Yoho, a smaller, less popular national park, but it has some highlights all the same.

Our first stop was the most popular spot in the park, Emerald Lake. We hiked the perimeter of the lake in mud, over logs, through water. It was quite the adventure. When we arrived, it was sprinkling, but after an hour or so long hike, the sun was out and that gave us the beautiful lake colors you see in the pictures.

The canoe rental here is only $90 an hour - the cheapest rate in the area. I would have loved a pic from the bow of a canoe, but that’s one expensive picture.

The next popular site is just down the road and made for a quick stop - Natural Bridge.

We took a paved, quick path to Takakkaw Falls, the second tallest waterfall in Canada.

And we found another set of red chairs.

On our way back to the village of Field we spotted black bears. The entire trip was made!

We had a delicious lunch at the one restaurant in the village of Field, Truffle Pigs Bistro. I mean this was really good. It’s no wonder people wait three hours to eat here. We arrived back to Canmore with only 20 minutes remaining on our park pass. It’s time to watch some Vol baseball while we wash these muddy clothes and get ready for the trip home.

What a week!
