Region 7-AAA Champions

For a third time this season we played our rival CHS. Tonight’s game was for the coveted regional championship. The game started a little slow. We had many shots, but we weren’t moving the ball very well and we continually lost it in the midfield playing the 4-4-2.

Both team captains battled it out on the field just about the entire game. With about 25 minutes left to play, we scored off a header in a free kick. That’s when the pace really picked up and both teams played with a bit more intensity, but after 80 minutes, we were crowned the winners!

Look at that face!

Next stop is sectionals. We host the game on Saturday against the second place team in the Memphis region.

What a ride we have had! I don’t want to get off quite yet!

Big Win

We won Tuesday’s game against a team that went to state last spring in the division below us. We had a great game in the second half and pulled away scoring six goals for a final score of 7-0.

District Opener

Tonight’s district opening game against Springfield was bitterly cold.

We played a flat game that lacked any true excitement, and we had between 20-35 shots on goal. No exaggeration!

Keagan must have had eight headers in this game! They tried to play over the top to no avail.

Their goalie and our ball boys were the hardest working players on the field.  However, flat was good enough for the 5-1 win.

We have three defenders out injured, so a freshman played on the back line with Keagan. Of course, Keagan had to coach him.

I can’t wait to see what these boys accomplish this season!

State Tournament - Semi-Finals

Keagan woke up stiff and sore, but he was determined to play. He was placed in the starting lineup for today’s semi-final state tournament game, took the field in uniform for introductions,

and then within a minute of game time, he changed back into warm up gear and sat on the bench. Coach decided to save his knee. At half, we were up by one goal. Keagan was still in warmups.

With half an hour left in the game, our outside back earned the team’s second red card. There was no choice; Keagan had to go in now. We played down the rest of the game with 8 field players.

It was a tough on-the-edge-of-your-seat kinda game. I was a nervous wreck! But we came away with the win!

Because of the reds, we have two players ineligible to play in Saturday’s championship game. Keagan will have to play all of our next game and will have to be as healthy as possible to play in the toughest game yet.

It was a noble effort on Keagan’s part. It was clear he was in pain, and yet he was running as hard as he could trying to get in the offense and trying to keep the opposing team from getting that coveted goal. His smart move in the last minute to pull the offense offsides kept PWYS from an attempt at scoring. Thankfully the line ref caught it.

When the final whistle blew, Keagan collapsed onto the grass with relief. They did it! The team is headed to the state championship game! The fam will all be there to watch it happen next Saturday.

He’s Back…

The black cloud that has been hanging over Keagan since his MCL sprain lifted tonight. I felt like this was his best game of the season. He played left / right back tonight and started the game with a lot of confidence. He was running with speed and a smoothness we haven’t seen in a while.

He and his left wing were able to communicate well and Keagan had several really great overlap runs. One of the overlaps put him the box with a shot that came off the goalie’s foot. Keagan got the assist when his teammate volleyed it in.

The highlight of the evening was his first goal of the season. A PK. It landed perfectly in the corner of the back of the net.

However, it was senior night and I ran to the concession stand to pick up flowers for the half time presentation and wasn’t able to record the shot. 😢  I at least got back to the field just in time to see the shot go in.

What a game, but what a week I’ve had! I’m past sleep deprived and nearing exhaustion. I need some serious sleep! But I’ll happily take exhaustion if it means I get to see more games and more goals.
