Soccer Highlights

I’m not a big fan of highschool soccer. I barely survive watching the games, and I always leave wondering if I’m watching something in a third dimension. There have been very few events worth highlighting in this semester’s school soccer season until this week. At Tuesday’s  game, Coach had Evan, who plays defense exclusivly, playing forward. In the first half, he had a through ball played to him from the defensive line. He outran the last defender, but just as he raised his foot to kick, he was fouled from behind and awarded a PK. The centerback scored!

The 4-1 win gave us an undefeated district record.

Just when we had begun to consider foregoing college ball to play club ball, Evan came home from practice Wednesday with his first personal invitation to attend an ID soccer camp in June. It was sent to him via his school coach. He was one of four invited to attend.

We are finishing the season on a high note.

On the Road to Regionals

After a second place finish in district, the high school soccer team began regional play against a high school in Memphis. The boys went to school for half a day and then made the four hour drive west. Evan was the only freshman to make the trip.

I didn’t drive to Memphis because “freshman don’t play varsity.” Eight hours in a car and eight hours with eighteen eight year olds is too much - even for me- in one day. I skipped the road trip and watched Keagan in his semi-final game instead.

Imagine my shock when I received a text from a friend that she had taken pics of Evan on the field. He was playing in a varsity *regional* game and I was missing it! And he was playing in the midfield.

We left West Tennessee with a win and a secured spot in sectionals. I was so excited for Evan that I didn’t bat an eye at having to pick him up from the school at midnight.
