Hoco 2019

Hoco 2019 was a great night, but it didn’t go off as planned. First, Evan called Wes from work, just as Wes and Keagan were headed out the door for a soccer game, that he needed his bowtie tied. Wes couldn’t locate it, and after 30 min found it hanging on the hangar where I so neatly organized the boys’ formal wear the week before. The long search made Keagan late for warmups. Evan got home from reffing and decided to take a nap. He overslept and then had to rush to make it in time for pics. The AR for Keagan’s game was 45 min late arriving to the field, and that meant Keagan was missing now pics and dinner with his Hoco date and friends. Evan got to pics with a crooked tie and in every pic it is cock-eyed! He grabbed both corsages in his rush out the door, and when Keagan got home, he couldn’t find the one for his date. Keagan finally got to pics after sunset, and every pic was taken in the dark. So this is what I got!

Next year I will be sure to avoid calendar conflicts and be home!

Back on the Pitch

You would not believe how happy I was to see this kid play this weekend.

https://youtu.be/FR3qM8qwE9Y

In game one, he played lights out! It was such a great performance, I had to stand and give an ovation at half. 😂 We tied that game 5-5. In game two the opposing team’s player was red carded for cleating Keagan in the right knee. When he went down, I was so fearful it was so much more serious, but he just has cleat marks across the knee cap. In today’s game, Keagan did not play nearly as well, but in the first ten minutes of the game, he was stepped on and now has a broken big toe. What horrible, horrible luck! He’s icing and elevating all over again!

We lost the semifinal game in PKs, so we did not come home with medals. But we played in the 03 bracket and played today like a winning team. I’m very excited about our next game and the future of these boys!

Stayin’ Alive

Our run for state stays alive after this weekend’s games. Saturday’s decisive win and Sunday’s tie earned us four more points. Saturday was Evan’s best game and gave us hope that he might be able to finally recover from his Achilles injury from 18 months ago. Sunday was the best soccer I’ve seen this team play. There was finally some cohesiveness on the field.

My faith in this group of boys has been restored.

This Just Happened

This came in today’s mail.

Evan was nominated for the Congress Global Good Award of Excellence for outstanding academic achievement, leadership potential, and determination to serve humanity in the STEM fields. (I’m not sure I can process the wordiness of that title. I feel like George Orwell’s six rules for writing should have been referenced before that title was written.) He’s invited to attend a three day workshop at Harvard next June.

I’m not sure if we should be flattered or consider this as junk mail. First, Evan’s career choice is sports law. That hardly coincides with a STEM field. Next, Evan’s only desire to serve humanity is if it involves the Republican Party and persuading anyone who will listen why Trump should serve two terms. I’m not sure Evan’s the candidate this organization is looking for.

But we will add it to his resume just the same. I’m so stinkin’ proud of him and his achievements!

Guess Who

Evan’s playing soccer this weekend. And playing forward at that! I just can’t even process how that is a good decision.

I’m not the only one. Another parent was heard asking, “Why is the best defender in the city playing up top?”

We are in between games and trying to beat the heat, so we made a quick trip to the bookstore. Wes, Evan, and I bought these books. Nothing speaks truer to our interests and personalities.

Can you match the person to the book?
