Pie, Pool, and Pistils

We celebrated the fourth with the very best things. We had rib-eyes, homemade mac and cheese, pasta salad, and strawberry pie.

We spent the afternoon in the pool playing a little ball and soaking up vitamin D.

We spent the evening watching the neighborhood fireworks show and firing off a few of our own.

The neighbors across the golf course go all out and spend the big bucks on palm trees and pistols.

Makinley was very excited when Wes suggested we buy a few sparklers. Her dad is a firefighter, and she said, “My dad never let me play with fireworks.”

Our day ended with a BANG! Happy Fourth!

Summer Art Project

It wouldn’t be summer if my teacher friends and I didn’t make something! Today we toyed with wood, power tools, paint, and stencils.

I think they all turned out so cute. My porch sign matches the colors in my outdoor rug perfectly!  It was a great day with great friends!

This Month in Home Renovation

In March we began planning the project Operation Cover the Popcorn Ceiling. My Pinterest inspired design was to be completed by May 25. However, the shortage of wood meant the saw mill pushed our order to May 26. We were in the middle of graduation that week, so we had the planks delivered the following week. Wes stained the wood while I was in Alabama with Keagan for soccer, and we’ve been waiting since then for the installation team to fit us in their schedule. Today was the day!

That ugly, dated popcorn ceiling is finally disappearing.

And here we have it! We updated the ceiling fan and that statement ceiling makes you want to look up!

It was a great debacle for me, but after deliberation and consultation with Pinterest. the stone will now need to be painted white. Wes loves me! 🤣

Summer Vacation - Part 2

Our summer of soccer “vacations” took us this weekend to an ID camp in Music City. It was hotter than seven Hades, but Belmont is Keagan’s dream school. He has had his eyes set on this D1 school for a couple of years. We hydrated, hydrated some more, and crossed our fingers he would make a great impression on the coach.

Pink 16 was impressive because although the heat wilted me, Keagan was running on that hot turf, giving it his all, and making some impressive stops. He conceded one goal and that was to an actual player from the college team.

Two ID camps down. Two (or three) more ID camps to go. Summer training begins tomorrow night.

Summer Time Job

Evan has toyed with the idea of getting a job since mid-May when the soccer season ended and ref jobs dried up, but who wants to hire a kid who is about to leave for college and needs a week off for vacation, this day off for orientation, this day off for advising, and don’t forget the freshmen canoe trip?  A snow cone truck!

Evan has a part time summer job working at a snow cone food truck. The snow cones are loaded with sugar, whipped cream, and candy. It’s basically diabetes in a cup.

Evan can wear shorts, tshirt, and crocs but he also has to wear this:

I know. I thought the same thing. But he told me, “I’m getting paid $12 to scoop ice in a cup. I’ll wear whatever they want.”
