Lake Day

My million dollar mutt is now sick with a stomach virus. Since he can’t stomach dog food, I’m at home making chicken broth and rice for his lunch and dinner and feeding him ice chips.

Really.

What has happened to me?!?!

Meanwhile, Evan is spending the day with our neighbors on the lake. Clearly he’s not having any fun and missing me.

Drivers Ed

Another to-do scratched off of our summer list.

Drivers Ed is done!

Evan is hinting at needing his hardship license, but since I nearly had a coronary on Monday when he drove us just two miles from our front door, I’m nixing that idea. More practice (with his dad) is necessary!

Summer Training

There’s no break from soccer in this house. We went from Regionals to summer training with only six days off. Even the rain can’t stop us. Yesterday both boys trained in the rain and had this rainbow as their backdrop.

Not sure what Keagan is doing here, but you better believe he works to earn every point when he does these drills. My two boys were the ONLY boys clapping and cheering when their pair earned points. Fifty five boys and not one other boy was as eager to “win” as mine. I’m not sure where they get that competitive spirit.

Let Freedom Ring

We spent the Fourth of July at home each in our own space and away from one another. Wes grilled. I read. Keagan played Fortnight. Evan watched projected NBA trades. It was a perfect day of nothingness.

Wes didn’t buy fireworks this year because we quickly learned someone gets scared and hides in the bathroom at the sound of the first boom.

We got our fireworks fix three days later at the NSC game. It was a great show after a great game!

Texas

No summer is complete without a trip to Texas. And a trip to Texas is not complete without visits with family, fresh peaches, coyotes howling at night, and lazy days in the pool.

Regionals Games 1, 2, and 3

Game 1: NFC vs SC -  MP
Final Score 1-2

We led 1-0 until the end of the second half.  With two corners, the opposing team scored two goals within five minutes. Evan went down in the second half with a sprained Achilles attempting to stop a goal. He stopped the goal scoring opportunity, but he also stopped himself from playing any more. The doctor told us he will be in recovery for 2-4 weeks. Nobody could have been more disappointed in this outcome than me.

Game 2: NFC vs Ives Estates
Final Score: 0-2
This Argentinian team from Miami had a big, fast forward wearing the number 88. I would have loved to have seen my #88 play on this guy! Unfortunately, Evan sat on the bench. We gave up a super easy goal - a goal that will always be remembered as one of the worsts! In the last minute, we pulled our goalie up in an attempt to score on a corner. The ball got out of the box and back down the field before the goalie could recover. A cheap goal!

Game 3: NFC vs SCUFC
Final Score: 4-4
This second place team had to win by four goals to move to the knock out round, but we held them to a tie and kept them from advancing. Unfortunately, with two losses, we were also headed home. We showed grit coming back in the last 13 minutes to score two goals. In the final minute, we almost scored the winning goal. Oh, so close!

This weekend was an eye opening experience. I hope Evan has the opportunity to play SRPL with these guys in the fall. I would love to see him play against these bigger and faster boys - especially since we didn’t get to see much of his playing this weekend. We are praying for complete healing and a great comeback!

Regionals Tournament

We made it to Greensboro, NC and the US Youth Soccer Region 3 tournament. As the Tennessee D1 state champions, we are representing the state in the southern regional championship.

Today’s events included a trip to the Greensboro Coliseum for opening ceremonies.

On the floor, the boys traded shirts and small tokens with teams from other states. Evan traded one training shirt for a girls small jersey, a Texas keychain, and a rally towel.

Tomorrow we play the first place South Carolina team. It should be a great game.
